Why some URLs fail here

This tool downloads files directly through your browser — no server of ours in the middle. That means the file's server must allow cross-origin fetches (CORS), which most direct file hosts (CDNs, GitHub, your own sites) do.

It cannot extract videos from YouTube, TikTok, Instagram or streaming sites: those pages do not expose a direct file URL, and extracting them violates their terms and requires server-side tooling (e.g. yt-dlp on your own machine). For those, use the site's own download button or a licensed downloader.

The file is streamed straight from the origin to your disk — it never touches any third-party server, so this works even for private links your browser can already access (same login session).
